Fright Night, Too Faced & More (Pic Heavy)

(Thank you to Holly for contacting bravenet for me since I was unable to & helping me get my blog working again. The site I was hosting my profile pic with seems to have vanished, which caused problems here. All better now though.  )

Well first things first - Fright Night. I had more fun than I thought I would, though there were not as many things to do as there used to be. I don't know if their budget was smaller this year or if not as many vendors wanted to come out because this was the first Fright Night in a couple years and they didn't expect much of a crowd... perhaps it was a little of both. There were not many people there while we were there, but we did get there fairly early. The doors opened at 7 and we got there at about 20 after, and we left just a few minutes past 8. We went through both of the haunted houses, watched a couple people try their hand at the dunk tank and that was it. There really was not much else to do than that. It was not too bad though; definitely better than last time I went. I'm not sure if I liked it more because I knew better what to expect having been there before, or if it was just a better set-up than last time. But I did have fun. =)

As I mentioned yesterday, today I have a pic of my nails that I did for Fright Night. I figured something simple in traditional Halloween colors was the way to go, so...

I used Milani "Orange Burst" for the main color, which is a very pink toned orange, but it's the only remotely orange polish I have. It's a sheer, very shimmery color so 4 coats were necessary. Then I used LA Colors Art Deco in "Black" to add the stripes, filled in the spaces left between the black lines with an orange glitter nail art pen (can't remember the brand name at the moment, sorry) and added two rhinestones just for fun. I think, if you're imaginative enough, the rhinestones are a bit like little ghost eyes peering at you. =)

My Too Faced order arrived yesterday. Well, part of it. You know how excited I was to get that box, and when I opened it up... it was only one of the three things I had ordered. Don't you just hate when an order gets to you in multiple shipments rather than all at once? I would not mind this so much had I known about it beforehand, but I didn't. So I opened up that box expecting all of my order. And go figure, the two items not here yet (and no tracking/ship date info, so NO idea when they'll get here!) are the things I was most excited about. But anyway the item that arrived yesterday was the Naughty or Nice Set, and included was a "thanks for your order" certificate with a code for a discount on your next order and a sample of Sun Bunny Bronzer.

The Sun Bunny bronzer sample is going to be given to my sister-friend because I can tell just looking at it that it is far too dark for my pale complexion; she's got more color to her so she may like it.
This is the packaging for the Naughty or Nice Set; the box and actual set both have the same images on them:

I really love this set of colors, and the packaging could not be more adorable. When you pull the little tab that is to the right, a little "drawer" opens up with a dual-end sponge-tip applicator & lip brush. I will never use the sponge-tip applicator, I never do. Any time I buy eye shadow that comes with one I toss it. Brushes are far superior. But anyway I did not plan to use the lip brush either just because I didn't want to gunk up the box any, but I don't have a lip brush otherwise and last night I needed one (you will see why later) so... I'm just going to have to invest in a lip brush now because I really do not want to get the packaging of this set messed up. It's too cute! Anywho, the two palettes of colors open separately with a magnetic closure which I think is cool, but I am easily amused afterall. Each side contains three lip colors and three eye shadows, as well as a mirror on top.

Here is a close-up of the colors:

The top lip color on the left is actually more of a dark pink than red, and the silver shdaow in the middle left is darker and more of a grey than silver... funny how the flash does things like that. But the rest of the colors are pretty true to life in the pictures.

I wound up doing what I suppose you could call a "50% nice 50% naughty" look last night and used colors from each of the palettes. I used the purple for my lid color, the darkest brown from the "nice" colors for the crease, the lightest brown/neutral on the brow bone, and the black as liner along the upper lash line. I also added some white from the LA Colors 5 Color palette in "Darling" to highlight the inner rim & brow bone a bit more. Then I added some Maybelline Cool Effect Shadow & Liner in "Blizzard Brown" along the lower lash line and topped that with MAD Minerals "Pizzazz". Finished it off with Just For Redheads Mascara Naturelle in "Ginger Brown". For my face products other than foundation and concealer, I used Mark Instant Blush in "Cheeky" and MAD Minerals Finishing Powder in "Satin Glow". And on my lips the middle pink color from the above Naughty or Nice Set.

And after all that I figured I may as well show you my hair for the night too. I did try to curl it, as I said I would. And it did not go well. Some curled, some didn't, even after over an hour of sitting under my dryer my hair was still very damp. What did curl fell flat within an hour. I ended up dampening my hair some more and combing out what few curls were there, and did what's rapidly becoming my go-to style these days. It's a slight variation on a look I did when my hair was a bit shorter. I call it the Knotted Pony Tail Bun. I don't know that anyone else has ever done this style... it's so simple I'm sure there are others who have done it before me, but of all the hair style pictures/videos I've seen on the internet I have not not come across this one before. Who knows, maybe it is an original created by me? LOL

Maybe I will do a quick tutorial on the style, if anyone shows any interest. Though I will say, obviously, you need long hair for this. My hair, for reference, is a bit past tailbone length and uber, uber thick. I'd imagine this style could be done with shorter (but still long) hair that is thinner, but I can't say for sure.

Well I suppose that's enough from me for one day isn't it? If you made it this far with reading everything (I know this was a very long post!) thank you for taking the time to read it! ♥

Wow, you really did an awesome job on your nails, Leah! You're very talented, you know; have you considered working in a nail salon and making for other nails the designs you come up with for yourself? I also like what you did with your hair. It's casual, but dressy, too - you could wear your hair like that whether you're going to the grocery store, or out to some super-fancy restaurant. It just works no matter what the occasion.

I'm glad Bravenet was able to find the cause of the loading issue, and that you were able to resolve it. I've missed being able to get here!

Have a great day and a great weekend, my friend. Catch ya later!
